Introduction
The Oxylator® EM-100 was introduced in Europe by its developer,
CPR Medical Devices Inc., in Sevilla (Spain) at the Third Conference
of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) in 1996. The company
Granulab BV has been the designated dealer for this respirator
for resuscitation and oxygen inhalation since 1997. The respirator,
which was developed specifically for emergency treatment, has
already been tested comprehensively in the United States and
Canada.
Our hospital staff had for some time been on the look-out for
a compact, simple and reliable respirator to complement the
15 resuscitation carts used by the resuscitation teams. When
we were offered the chance to test this respirator in clinical
situations, we were eager to do so. The test results are discussed
in this article.
First, we review the operation and abilities of the Oxylator®
EM-100, our test is then explained and the results discussed.
The respirator's performance is described on the basis of two
case studies, and this is followed by our Conclusions. |
